Acknowledge the difference between CUET & Board Exams

Before devoting your complete time to Boards, you must understand that even though the syllabus for both exams is similar, Board exams and CUET 2023 are two different types of exams that serve different purposes and require different preparation strategies. While board exams focus on testing the academic knowledge of students, competitive exams like CUET focus on testing the aptitude and problem-solving skills of candidates. Therefore, candidates preparing for competitive CUET exams need to focus on specific topics and develop their problem-solving skills to perform well in CUET exams.

Let us understand some of the key differences between the two:

  1. Purpose: Board exams are typically conducted at the end of the academic year to test the knowledge and skills of students and determine their eligibility for promotion to the next academic level. These exams are conducted by educational boards such as CBSE, ICSE, and state boards. Competitive Exams such as Common University Entrance Test (CUET), on the other hand, are conducted to select candidates for admission to educational programs
  1. Scope: Board exams typically cover the entire syllabus of a particular academic year, whereas competitive exams such as the CUET exam cover a wide range of topics and subjects that are relevant to admission to a particular course or university. While the board exams are designed to test one's knowledge of the subject, competitive exams like CUET are more application based.
  1. Difficulty level: While board exams can be challenging because of the theoretical content, the difficulty level is generally lower than that of the CUET exam. Competitive exams such as CUET are designed to test the aptitude, analytical, and problem-solving skills of candidates and are therefore more challenging.
  1. Exam pattern: The exam pattern for board exams is generally fixed and is announced well in advance. It usually includes multiple-choice questions, short-answer questions, and long-answer questions. Competitive exams, on the other hand, may have a different exam pattern depending on the type of exam. To understand and get familiarized with the examination pattern, you must attempt NTA pattern-based CUET mock test on Smartkeeda.
  1. Preparation: The preparation for board exams and competitive exams is also different. While board exams require students to study the entire syllabus and focus on their academic performance throughout the year, entrance exams such as the CUET exam require candidates to focus on specific topics and subjects that are relevant to the exam for admission to a particular course, college, or course + college combination.
